چکیده

BMJ 1991;302:88-9 Oral rehydration solutions are highly effective for treating most patients with dehydration due to diarrhoea. Early formulations contained glucose and three salts: sodium chloride, sodium bicarbonate, and potassium chloride. Subsequently, a formulation containing trisodium citrate dihydrate instead of sodium bicarbonate was shown to be more stable under high humidity and temperature conditions and equally effective in treating dehydration and acidosis due to diarrhoea'; in one study of patients with cholera the severity ofpurging was significantly less and in another study there was a similar trend.23 In a randomised double blind trial we compared the two solutions.

Sagodana based verses rice based oral rehydration solution in the management of acute diarrhoea in Pakistani children.

This study was carried out to compare the efficacy of a cereal based ORS (prepared with 50 G of sagodana (cereal), 3.5 G/L sodium chloride, 1.5 G/L potassium chloride, 2.9 G/L trisodium citrate) with rice based oral rehydration solution (using same amounts of rice and electrolytes) for treatment of diarrhoea. Oral rehydration therapy: efficacy of sodium citrate equals to sodium bicarbonate for correction of acidosis in diarrhoea.

Forty patients with moderate degrees of dehydration and acidosis because of acute watery diarrhoea were successfully treated randomly with either WHO recommended oral rehydration solution containing 2.5 g sodium bicarbonate or an oral solution containing 2.94 g sodium citrate in place of sodium bicarbonate per litre of oral rehydration rehydration solution. Efficacies were compared by measuring...

Does an L-glutamine-containing, Glucose-free, Oral Rehydration Solution Reduce Stool Output and Time to Rehydrate in Children with Acute Diarrhoea? A Double-blind Randomized Clinical Trial

This study assessed whether an oral rehydration solution (ORS) in which glucose is replaced by L-glutamine (L-glutamine ORS) is more effective than the standard glucose-based rehydration solution recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO-ORS) in reducing the stool volume and time to rehydrate in acute diarrhoea. In a double-blind, randomized controlled trial in a Mexican hospital, 147 d...
